Introduction

The Department of Public Health Administration aims to orient the students in public health and principles of management as applied to the field of health. It covers various administrative techniques such as health service research, planning, organization, evaluation, budget, health management, system analysis, operational research, health sector reforms, etc.

The department, since its inception, has been involved in various research studies in health care delivery, disease epidemiology, operations research, quality of care, health financing , disease surveillance, Health Information systems, in all areas including remote and tribal areas.

Besides, providing inputs to all regular courses, the Department conducts the Post-graduate Diploma in Public Health Management (PGDPHM) course and coordinates the Core course for the MD Community Medicine, MD MPH Epidemiology, MSc Public Health Maternal and Child Health and Master in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) courses.

Teaching Activities

Regular Courses Conducted:

Department is coordinating one-year Post-graduate Diploma in Public Health Management (PGDPHM) course supported by the National Health Mission.
Department of Public Health Administration is also coordinating the Core course programme for the MD Community Medicine, MD MPH Epidemiology, MSc Public Health Maternal and Child Health and Master in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) courses
Faculty take classes for other courses conducted by the institute i.e. MD (CM) , MPH (Epidemiology) DHPE, DHS, MVPH & SHI

Other Regular Activity

Seminars/ Short Study presentation/ Journal Club/Focus Group Discussion/ Field Activities/Family Care presentations etc. are undertaken as part of curricular activities by the students.

New Initiatives

The Dept has submitted a proposal for starting Master in Public Health (MPH) course for candidates from medical and non-medical backgrounds

Collaboration

The Department collaborates with Centre on Non-Communicable Diseases, ICMR Kolkata, for student visit and research programme and Public Health Foundation of India for conducting the Post-graduate Diploma in Public Health Management (PGDPHM) course
