Department of Health Promotion & Education

Introduction

The Department of Health Promotion & Education is an integral part of the institute and is actively involved in teaching, training and research activities in the field of health promotion and education –  specially the techniques and methods of assessing health promotion & educational needs of the population and planning, implementing and evaluating interventions for changing undesirable health behavior. Since 1966 the department is conducting a Diploma course in Health Education and has produced more than 1045 trained manpower in Health Promotion and Education. Besides, the department also imparts teaching and training in the relevant public health specialty, for all other courses conducted in the Institute e.g. MD (Community Medicine), MPH(Epidemiology), M.Sc. (Applied Nutrition), MEPH, MVPHDPH, & Dip-Diet.

Teaching /Training Activities

  1. Diploma in Health Promotion and Education – a one year post graduate course for developing Health Promotion and Education Specialists. The course has an intake capacity of 46 and is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
  2. Training workshop on “Recent updates in Health Promotion and Education for tackling increasing burden of Non communicable Diseases and Emerging Public Health problems” for Health Educators was conducted at Regional Health and Family Welfare Training centre, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh form 6th-8th Nov, 2017
  3. First batch of Skill based training course “Diabetes Educator”was successfully trained from 26.03.2018 to 08.06.2018

  • Nutrition exhibition at Nasibpur High school was organized in collaboration with Food and Nutrition board (ER) on 4th 2017 for celebration National Nutrition week 1-7 Sep, 2017.
  • Awareness regarding “Infant and Young child feeding practices “was conducted in villages under Nasibpur Gram panchayat form for celebration National Nutrition week 1-7 Sep, 2017.
  • Awareness regarding “Risk factors of NCDs” was conducted villages under Nasibpur Gram panchayat form for celebration National Nutrition week 1-7 Sep, 2017.
